感染事件
2005年10月，澳洲名叫萨曼的7岁女童和家人光顾悉尼市郊维拉伍德的肯德基分店，进食旋风鸡卷。萨曼和家人事后全都感到不适，出现食物中毒症状。其中萨曼情况严重，她感染沙门氏菌，出现败血性休克，并发脑病变，导致四肢瘫痪和大脑受损，自此要坐轮椅生活。悉尼zui高*裁定萨曼家人胜诉，律师表示是由于肯德基员工未能按照适当程序准备食物，以致鸡卷受到污染。2012年4月27日，*下令肯德基向原告支付800万澳元(约合830万美元)赔偿并承担全部诉讼费用。
2008年6月9日，美国疾控中心宣布，美国中西部和南部9个州暴发沙门氏菌病疫情，有近百人染病，并将“中毒”原因归咎为生食了从超市或是餐馆购买的新鲜西红柿，因为在对这些吃过西红柿的患者检查中都发现了沙门氏菌。
2012年8月20日，据美国媒体报道，美国州内和联邦政府官员称，全美有20个州出现了沙门氏菌感染病例，已造成2人死亡、141人感染。肯塔基州的感染人数zui多，共有50人感染。
2013年10月8日美国疾病控制和预防中心公布，迄今，全美18个州共报告278例因食用与生鸡肉有关产品引发的沙门氏菌感染病例，感染者住院比例高达42%。
美国疾病控制和预防中心数据显示，普通沙门氏菌感染者住院比例约为20%，而引发此次疫情的海德堡沙门氏菌株的某些菌种具有耐药性，使得此次疫情比以往更为严重，也导致感染者入院治疗比例较高。美国*发布警告说，迄今报告的沙门氏菌感染病例有77%发生在加利福尼亚州，感染者包括从婴儿到93岁的老人在内的所有年龄层人群。另据当地媒体报道，18%的感染者已患上严重的、威胁生命的沙门氏菌败血症。*称，可能导致此次疫情的生鸡肉产品由加州福斯特农场所属的3个食品工厂生产，主要在加州、俄勒冈州及华盛顿州等地销售。然而该公司发表声明说，目前还没有实施有关产品召回措施。
毒性比较
两种生物如果在生物分类上被归入一个种，想必是非常亲近的了。伤寒沙门氏菌Salmonella typhi和鼠伤寒沙门氏菌Salmonella typhimurium这两个名字，看起来也够像的。不过，它们的行为大不相同，基因序列也没有那么像。

Infection event
In October 2005, a seven-year-old Australian girl named Samant and her family visited the KFC restaurant in Vera Wood, a suburb of Sydney, to eat the whirlwind chicken roll. Samantha and her family all felt unwell afterwards, with symptoms of food poisoning. Among them, Saman was in a serious condition. She was infected with Salmonella and developed septic shock. She developed cerebral lesions, resulting in paralysis of the four limbs and brain damage. Since then, she has to live in a wheelchair. The Sydney Supreme Court ruled that the Saman family won the case. The judge said the chicken rolls were contaminated because KFC employees failed to prepare the food according to proper procedures. On April 27, 2012, the court ordered KFC to pay $ 8 million (approximay $ 8.3 million) to the plaintiff and pay the full legal costs.
On June 9, 2008, the CDC announced that outbreaks of salmonellosis were in outbreaks in nine states in the central, western and southern states of the United States, with nearly 100 human infections and attributed "poisoning" to raw eating of fresh tomatoes purchased from supermarkets or restaurants Because Salmonella was found in these patients who had eaten tomatoes.

Toxicity comparison
If two species are classified as one taxon, it must have been very close. The names Salmonella typhi and Salmonella typhimurium look just enough. However, their behavior is very different, the gene sequence is not so.
